Royal Air Force

The Royal Flying Corps was formed in 1912 with military and naval wings. In 1914 the naval wing became the Royal Naval Air Service and the rest was detached from Army control in 1918 to become the Royal Air Force. Records of these precursors of the RAF are held at the Public Record Office, as are RAF records for service during the First World War.

The Ministry of Defence's website gives contact addresses for further information on RAF ancestors.
