Newspaper cuttings

In addition to holding copies of the newspapers we have an extensive collection of cuttings from the local newspapers, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s to the present day.
These are indexed by subject and by name.
Staffordshire Advertiser :
Index to Births, Marriages and Deaths 1795-1820.
Staffordshire Advertiser :
Index to Births, Marriages and Deaths 1821-1840.

We hold copies of these indexes that were published by the Staffordshire Record Society in 1968 and 1986 respectively. Copies of the newspapers are held at the William Salt Library in Stafford and at the British Library Newspaper Library at Colindale.

National Newspapers held locally

Wolverhampton Central Library , Reference Section has back copies of The Times dating back to 1857 and there is a printed index covering the period 1857 - 1990.
Both The Times and Guardian newspapers are available on CD from 1990 and can be searched by subject and name.

Newsplan

Newsplan is a national programme maintained by the British Library Newspaper Library for the microfilming and preservation of local newspapers. We have a copy of a report produced in 1990 of Newsplan in the West Midlands that includes a comprehensive list of newspapers produced in the area and where copies can be found.

Copies of Wolverhampton newspapers that we do not have may be held at the William Salt Library in Stafford , the British Library Newspaper Library or at the Express and Star offices in Queen Street, Wolverhampton at www.westmidlands.com.
