Monumental
Inscriptions

St. Michael and All Angels' Church, Tettenhall, C.1870
For some churchyards
there are monumental inscriptions available. These are transcripts
of the information taken from the tombstones or monuments. Please
see our list of monumental inscriptions
for
details of our holdings. Bear in mind that many urban churchyards
were closed in the nineteenth century and burials began to take
place in new municipal cemeteries. Wolverhampton's first municipal
cemetery at Jeffcock Road opened in 1850. Microfilms for this and
all of Wolverhampton's cemeteries burial registers are available
at Archives and Local Studies. For a full list click

St Peter's Churchyard
In 1936 the Borough Engineer for Wolverhampton, completed a survey
of St Peter's Churchyard, before the area was re-landscaped as St
Peter's Gardens. The survey included a plan showing the gravestones,
each being allocated
a number, and a schedule. The grave number was recorded in the schedule
along with the inscription, where legible. Often whole families
were interred in the same tomb.
A transcript
of the schedule
, in surname order, is available to download.
