Mary Pointon (1900-1983)

Mary Pointon became a councillor with Coseley Urban District Council in 1946 and was its first woman chair in 1953. She was also chair of the Housing Committee for twelve years and vice chair of Education.

She joined Wolverhampton Council in 1966 representing Springvale Ward. She become chair of the Housing Committee and a member of the Leisure and Municipal Trading Committees.

In 1970 Mary became agent and constituency secretary for Bob Edwards, the Labour Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton South East.

Mary was an active Labour councillor right up to her death in 1983.

In the same year the library at Woodcross was dedicated to her memory.
