John Tomkys Baker, 1937 - 1938

John Tomkys Baker was a member of the Bilston Urban District Council prior to its incorporation into a borough in 1933. After the incorporation he became Conservative representative for New Town Ward where he held the positions of Chairman of the Housing and Town Planning Committee, and Vice-chairman of the Education Committee. On the 18th March 1937, as alderman, he accompanied his close friend the mayor, Walter Hughes, to the opening ceremony of the 2000th council house. Baker was elected mayor in the same year.
