Walter Fellows,
1960 - 1961
Walter Fellows
was born in 1908 and spent twenty years in local politics, having
been first elected to Staffordshire County Council in 1945. Ten
years later he was elected to Bilston Borough Council, representing
the New Town Ward. Professionally he was a stocktaker at a steel
rolling mill. In 1951 Fellows was Chairman of the Labour Party's
Ward Committee, and a member of the local branch of the British
Iron and Steel and Kindred Trades Association. He became mayor in
1960. When Bilston was amalgamated with Wolverhampton, he represented
Bilston North for Wolverhampton Council. After suffering from a
long-term illness, Fellows died in 1987, aged seventy-nine.
