Audery Agnes Vera Chettle, 1949 - 1950

Audery Agnes Vera Chettle was the daughter of an architect and surveyor. Her paternal grandfather was Rev WW Chettle, the second vicar at Bradley, a position he held for twenty years. Audery ran a school in Bradley for handicapped children, a position that won her great respect in the community. Her family had long associations with St Martin's Church in Bradley. Audery became Bilston's only woman Mayor in 1949; her deputy mayor was her sister Miss E Chettle. During her mayoral year she lived at "Aubyn", King Street, Bradley.
