George E Winyard, 1947 - 1949

Born in 1894, George Winyard became an industrialist before entering local politics. He was elected to Bilston Borough Council in 1946, representing the High Town Ward. He served on the council for six years and held the position of Mayor for two consecutive years, from 1947 until 1949. He was married with two children, and during his mayoral term lived at 19 Wellington Road, Bilston. He was a lover of sports, playing for Wednesbury Cricket Club and Staffordshire. He was also a member of the Wolverhampton Sportsman Association and Bilston Town Bowling Club. In the last years of his life Winyard lived at Elmsdale, Wightwick, where he died in 1969, aged seventy-three.
