Cyril Bernard
Vincent Taylor,
1946 - 1947
Born in Sheffield in 1896, Taylor came to Wolverhampton
at the age of 18, and for a time worked as an engineer at the works
of the former Sunbeam Motor Car Company. Between the years 1921
and 1967 he and his wife ran a milliners business in Queen Street.
He was a member of Wolverhampton Civic and Express & Star Comforts
Fund, as well as being involved with the Scuttle Club, Lifeboat
Fund, St Dunstan's Hostel, the British Red Cross Society and Wolverhampton
Children's Holiday Camp. Taylor held the office of Mayor from November
1946 to November 1947. Whilst Mayor, Taylor was also the President
of Wolverhampton Savings Committee. For eighteen years he served
as the Chairman of the Parks and Physical Recreation Committee,
as well as serving on the Markets, Streets, General Purposes and
Transport Committees. In 1968 Taylor was awarded an MBE for his
local government services. He died in 1984 at the age of eighty-eight
at his home in Probert Road, Oxley.
