William
Lawley, 1945 - 1946
Lawley was a sub-postmaster who lived at Cranmore Road,
Wolverhampton. As a result of his employment he became secretary
to the local branch of the National Federation of Sub-postmasters.
He was elected to Wolverhampton Council in 1932 and was elected
mayor in 1945, becoming an alderman in the same year. He was appointed
Borough Magistrate in 1949. Lawley was the chairman of both Wolverhampton
Executive Council for Health Services and the choir section of Wolverhampton
Guild of Music. He left Wolverhampton with his wife in 1951 to live
in Machynlleth, Wales. His wife died in 1962 and Lawley died two
years later.
