Albert
Abraham Beach, 1940 - 1941
Beach, a native of the Forest of Dean, began his working
life as a minor. At the age of 17 he left home and headed to the
South Wales coal pits, where he was influenced by the Salvation
Army, eventually training as a officer. In this capacity he moved
to the East End of London and later Northumberland. This led him
to become involved in the Labour Movement. After the war he moved
to Wolverhampton, becoming involved again in the Labour Movement.
In Wolverhampton Beach became the district representative for the
Oak Friendly Society, and was first elected to Wolverhampton Council
in 1921. He was elected to the office of mayor in 1940, and upon
retiring in 1941 became a magistrate. Beach died in June 1972 at
the age of seventy-six.
