Harry Austin White, 1939 - 1940

White was born in 1883 and originated from Bury, settling in Wolverhampton in 1899. He spent some years in Leicester and London then joined the Flying Corps as a motor driver in the First World War, being stationed in Mesopotamia. He was the Director of the Midland Counties Dairy Co Ltd supporting the employers for the Milk Distribution Trade Board. In 1932 he was elected to Wolverhampton Council as a Conservative, representing the Graisley Ward. He became the Chairman and later the Vice-President of the West Wolverhampton Conservative Association. He was nominated as Mayor in 1939 and in 1941 was elected as Borough Magistrate, and as Alderman in 1945. However he lost his seat two months later when Labour secured the Council majority. He was a keen golfer, bowler and cricketer and was associated with St John's Ambulance Brigade and the Citizen's Advice Bureau in addition to being the Chairman of the Red Cross and supporting St John's War Committee and the Penny a Week Fund. White died, aged sixty-four, on the 24th November 1947.
