Richard Ernest Probert, 1937 - 1938

Born in 1858, Probert became head of the firm that was founded by his grandfather, E. Probert & Sons, Broadlanes Boiler Works, Bilston, and subsequently Probert constructed numerous furnaces in the district. Whilst working for Alfred Hickman Ltd in the 1890s he was severely injured in an accident, falling sixty-four feet from a stove. He was closely associated with Darkhouse Baptist Church, Coseley, for forty-seven years. During this period he held office in the church, occupying the position of Treasurer for twenty-one years and superintendent for eight years. By 1930 he was an honouree Deacon. Richard Probert worked for the Conservative party on behalf of Sir Alfred Hayter and was the Chairman of Highfield Ward Association for twenty-one years. He served as mayor in 1937. Probert died in 1958.
