Joseph Haddock, 1930 - 1931 (1932 Mar-Nov)

Born in 1874, Haddock made his career in the licensed trade. He became licensee of the Horse & Jockey, Bilston Street, in 1922. Eleven years later he became the manager of the Star & Garter Hotel, for the proprietor JV Boswell. After fourteen years he retired from active management of the hotel to become director of Boswell Hotels Ltd, the company that acquired the Star & Garter. He was elected to Wolverhampton Council in 1920, representing St George's Ward, although he later represented other wards. Haddock became Mayor in 1930, following the death of John Lewis. He sat on many committees and was the Chairman of the Markets Committee for twenty-seven years until 1952, and at this time he held the longest period of continuous municipal service to the town. Haddock died at his home, 21 Osborne Road, Wolverhampton, on the 25 June 1957, aged eighty-three.
