Frederick
Albert Willcock, 1925 - 1927
Born in 1863, Frederick was the son of Henry Willcock.
His brother, Councillor RA Willcock, was the borough coroner, and
his sister was the widow of a previous mayor, FH Skidmore. Willcock
became a Conservative councillor in 1904 representing St Mark's
Ward, and later, in 1926, became an alderman; and an appointed magistrate
in 1927. He was also elected by magistrates as a governor of Wolverhampton
Grammar School. Willcock was the master of the Freemasons St Peter's
and Wulfrun Lodges. He became Vice-chairman of Wolverhampton and
District Permanent Building Society, and was a sidesman and people's
warden at St Peter's Collegiate Church. During his year as mayor
in 1927, Edward, the Prince of Wales visited the town and was received
by Willcock and his wife for the opening of the Wolverhampton to
Birmingham road on the 2nd November. After collapsing at Snow Hill,
Willcock died on the 9th February 1939.
