James
Thompson, 1920 - 1922
Born in 1863, Thompson settled at Seisdon Hall near Wolverhampton,
and formerly lived at Ludstone Hall, Claverley, Shropshire. He was
a senior managing director of John Thompson Ltd and had been a member
of Staffordshire County Council since 1916. He was at one time President
of Wolverhampton and District Engineering Company and a Director
of Bilston Gas, Light and Coke Company. He became Mayor in 1920
and held the office for two consecutive years. He died on board
the SS Laconia, off the Greek coast near Athens, on April 15th 1934,
aged seventy-one, and was buried at sea in the Mediterranean between
Naples and Athens. He left a substantial fortune including property
to the gross value of £115,267, and made bequests to the Royal
Hospital, the Women's Hospital, the District Nurses Home and the
Royal Orphanage. He also made bequests to the directors of John
Thompson's Companies and the indoor servants who had been employed
in his service for more than six months.
