Thomas
Bantock, 1869 - 1870
Bantock was born in Goldspen, Sutherland in 1823. At the age of
sixteen he started work with the Trustees of the Duke of Bridgewater,
undertaking various duties in the collieries, canal and transport
departments, a position he held until 1849. At the time of his election
Bantock worked for the Great Western Railway Company in the transport
department. He also had a commercial interest in the local coal
and iron trade, having his own firm Thos Bantock & Co based
at Herbert Street. Bantock came to office in 1869 and served on
the council for thirty-three years. He died in 1895.
