Joseph Crowther Smith, 1865- 1866

Smith was born and educated in Walsall. He began his career as a clerk in the legal profession before moving to Wolverhampton in 1840. Descended from a prominent family, he reinforced his social status when he married the daughter of an eminent man named Smith. He was elected mayor in 1865.
