Religious Faith
in Wolverhampton Salvation Army The Salvation Army was founded by William Booth in 1865 in the East End of London. Thirteen years later, it began its work in Wolverhampton. The Army first met at Dartmouth Street Hall and by 1911 had opened its first Citadel in Cleveland Road.

1917 the Citadel
received a visit from General Bramwell Booth. The meeting he held
on his return visit in 1923 was attended by a record crowd of 1,300,
with many more turned away through lack of space at the Agricultural
Hall, Snow Hill. The Salvation Army is still active today in Wolverhampton. In addition to the Citadel, the Army also now has a Goodwill Centre in Willenhall Road.
